Welcome back to your exclusive, bi-weekly newsletter of the League of Women Voters of Wake County. If someone forwarded this to you and you'd like to become a member, or are interested in learning more, just click here. |
On August 8, LWV-Wake County will lead a Unite & Rise Voter Registration—our call to action while joining forces with league members across the United States. From the 1913 march to the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which safeguarded every citizen’s right to vote, women have led the way.
Now it’s our turn. Grab a clipboard, register voters, and help protect democracy.
This is our charge, our legacy, and our moment—let’s unite and rise together.

KFF Health News provides information on current national research and policy.
The webpage still has a link to the Reproductive Rights Issues webpage and we have also included a link to Pro-Choice North Carolina for up-to-date information on laws, resources and services in North Carolina.
We hope you find the updated webpage informative and easy to navigate.

| | Women's Equality Day Event - August 26th
Join us for this special annual event as we celebrate and recognize the leadership, service, and impact of all invited honorees — women elected officials serving Wake County. This year’s theme, “Women Lead the Way,” highlights the vital role women play in guiding our communities forward and shaping a stronger future for all.
Our guest speaker will be Angela Thorpe Mason, Executive Director of the Pauli Murray Center for History and Social Justice. The RSVPs are coming in from Honorees and this is shaping up to be a meaningful event for all.
Women’s Equality Day also commemorates the adoption of the 19th Amendment, a milestone that continues to inspire civic engagement and leadership today.
We hope you’ll join us for this inspiring celebration! Please also consider purchasing a sponsorship in support of our primary fundraising event of the year.
Sponsor this event.
This Women's Equality Day (WED) event is our League's major fundraiser of the year. The funds we raise help pay for supplies, office space rent, and printed materials we provide to voters. We hope you will support us by attending. You can purchase tickets and sponsor the event through the registration link.
If you cannot attend, please consider purchasing a sponsorship and donating your tickets. Please email Gaye Williams if you would like to donate your tickets.
WED Volunteers Needed!

| | Volunteers are needed to make the VOTE411 online voter guide as effective as possible for the upcoming, very important, Mid-term General Election. Wake County has about 50 races and 100+ candidates on our ballot.
10 volunteers are needed to primarily text, but perhaps email and/or call candidates after they receive an invitation to participate in the voter guide. These volunteers will reach out to a short list of candidates several times between Sept. 15 and Oct. 15.
18 volunteers are needed to pick up VOTE411 signs at the League office and put them out at each of the Early Voting sites, monitor them during Early Voting, and then remove them and return them to the office. Signs will go out just before Early Voting begins, Oct. 15 and will be returned by Nov. 5.
Pencil in a time or two. These opportunities will be available to sign up for on the website soon.
Early voting runs October 15–31, and Election Day is November 3. Visit the League of Women Voters vote411.org website for trusted, nonpartisan resources.
| HB 958 Election Law Changes
The North Carolina Senate voted 28-13 on July 28th to approve a significantly revised version of HB 958, Election Law Changes, after adopting a Senate committee substitute and considering several floor amendments. Because the Senate changed the House-passed bill, HB 958 now returns to the House, where members must decide whether to concur with the Senate changes or negotiate a final version.
HB 834 Update
Two components of HB 958 that we supported—extended timelines for curing/processing eligible ballots—were removed from HB 958 and added to HB 834, the Sportsman’s Voter Act. Interestingly, the bill’s original language, which would require voter registration to be offered to those applying for hunting licenses, was removed. HB 834 passed unanimously and now goes back to the House before being sent to Governor Stein.
