Dear ~~first_name~~,

Happy Memorial Day from LWV of Wake County. Today we honor all who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country, and those who have and are currently serving in our armed forces. We thank you for your service!

As we get together with friends, hit the pool, grill and chill, please take a pause and remember that democratic freedoms, including the right to vote, must be provided to all citizens in our country. In addition, they must be protected. This IS the work of League of Women Voters.

These freedoms extend to free and fair elections. A small but loud minority is seeking to undermind them, in order to give the false perception that our elections are not secure. Last week, the U.S. House Administration Committee held a hearing “American Confidence in Elections: Preventing Noncitizen Voting and Other Foreign Interference.” During this hearing, mis and disinformation was presented, with little to no evidence. You can read the LWVUS statement here. You can view the hearing here.

LWV-Wake and Leagues across our state and country work to combat these false narratives by actively observing County and State Boards of Elections, advocating for and promoting post-election audit results, and serving as poll workers.

We also routinely share NCBOE information related to election security on social media and at voter outreach events. We encourage all members to get involved in promoting the integrity of our elections by NOT engaging or repeating mis- and disinformation and sharing information from the NC State Board of Elections. Learn more about the security of NC elections here.

Dianna Wynn Nominated as LWVUS President for 2024-2026
For the first time in League history, the LWVUS President will have gotten her start at LWV of Wake County! We are beyond excited that Dianna Wynn, who served as LWV-Wake President from 2019-2021, has been nominated as LWVUS President. The slate of nominees will be formally voted on during the LWVUS Convention June 27th-29th.

Dianna will be making comments during our annual meeting. For those of you who may be relatively new to the League, this is your chance to meet her. You can learn more about Dianna and the slate of LWVUS Board nominees here.

Voter Services Social.5.2024
May 18th Voter Services Brunch Highlights
Members of the Voter Services committee gathered at the home of Marian Lewin on Saturday, May 18th to socialize. Many members were able to get aquainted in-person for the first time since joining the League. In addition, members showcased their incredible culinary skills with a huge spread of food.

Host Marian Lewin discussed the the committee's work, and everyone participated in a great discussion about what types of voter outreach and messaging will be important ahead of the 2024 General Election.  Thank you Marian for hosting and to all the members who attended.

Join Congressman Wiley Nickel and the League of Women Voters of North Carolina for a virtual event, co-sponsored by Common Cause North Carolina and NC Counts Coalition, to discuss the impact of partisan gerrymandering on our state and the country.
